Still Covered Medicaid work-requirement exemption screener on CALL-E

Nobody is calling to ask.

From 1 January 2027, most adults aged 19–64 on Medicaid must show 80 hours a month of work, school, volunteering or job training — or about $580 in earnings — to keep coverage. Nine categories of people are exempt. When Arkansas tried this in 2018, more than 18,000 people lost coverage in seven months and employment did not change: they were already working, or already exempt, and nobody asked them.

  1. Clear whoever the state’s own data clears. Those people are never called at all.
  2. Call everyone else in their own language — identity first, then whether they have even heard of the rule, then only the exemption questions their record has not already answered.
  3. Decide in code, not in the model. Anything unclear becomes a review, never an exemption.
  4. Hand every call to a human. Nothing here changes anyone’s coverage.
